VTE journal club
In the latest VTE journal club review, Professor Rickles discusses an article by the PROLONG Investigators on the use of D-dimer testing to determine the length of time oral anticoagulation therapy should be given. He highlights the important data provided by the PROLONG study, but also stresses that some questions remain unanswered and more work needs to be done before we can enthusiastically endorse the use of a positive D-dimer test as the exclusive parameter for re-instituting oral anticoagulation therapy beyond the currently recommended treatment period.
